About Me
The 2016/17 school year will be my seventh year teaching art at Ledyard High School. I love all different forms of art and I am constantly making things and trying out new projects in my own time. I have always been artistic, encouraged from a young age by my parents (my dad is also a visual artist, and some of my earliest memories are sitting next to him at his drafting table while we both drew and painted together). I had a several other positive influences growing up, but I feel like it was in high school when I really started to express myself through my various creative outlets, and they started to define who I was as a person. This is why, although I see benefits to teaching all levels, I seem to have really found my "niche" working with high school students.
I received a BS in Art Education with a minor in Creative Writing from Central Connecticut State University in 2010, and became hired the summer after graduating. I am also currently pursuing my Master's degree through CCSU. My strengths as an artist are in drawing and painting. Some of my subjects I tend to focus on are Surreal scenes that address the emotions and humor in everyday life, dream imagery, graveyards, and landscapes of places I've been and feel a personal connection to. Watercolor, acrylic, colored pencil, charcoal, pastel, pen and ink, and water-mixable oils are some of my favorite media. I also like to create mixed-media books as a form of personal journaling.
When I'm not teaching or working on my own art and craft projects, I like to be outside, specifically at the beach, camping or hiking. I spend a lot of time with my fiance; he teaches third grade at Gallup Hill School. We live locally. I love being part of such a great school and community and I am looking forward to working and growing in Ledyard for a long time to come!
